I feel that I have been very patient thus far with this series. It has put me through two dimensional characters, endless back-stories, names I cannot pronounce, let alone remember and of course the continuous switching between the present day and the past. In the previous volume, I was hoping for some action. I was hoping for some serious ass kicking, justice being handed out, but at the end of the last volume and after a rapid episode of what the internet would called being ‘pwned’, Bounshici sat the boys down, and began the tedious back story which has so far occupied the majority of the series.

So what exactly is this back story and what exactly does it add? Well, it details the rise of the current Executive council to power when the then Juuken club beat all their rivals to lead the school. It shows us the raw power of the Dragon Eye and its hold over Shin. And to top it off this particular flashback contains plenty of Maya panty shots and close-ups of her voluptuous chest. On the good side the volume did show off the quite impressive tactical abilities of the original Juuken club as a whole as they wiped the floors clean with the blood of their rivals. Awesome! By the end of the volume there is at least a feeling of progress as the back-back-story behind all the events so far come to fruition. In addition to this the process of change which turns young Mitsuomi into the heartless bastard Mitsuomi of the present day is revealed.

This aside, what is becoming increasingly obvious is that the series’ second massive flashback doesn’t end in volume 6. Yes! You heard me, it continues on into the final volume. This makes me sad. The series has half-heartedly been building to a final kick-off fight between the Juuken club and the Executive Council and after 6 volumes of wait and hope for some blood, its going to be truncated by yet MORE flashbacks. There are three episodes left and all I hope is that the show is wrapped up in a decent fashion, people die, and I am left with perhaps the satisfaction of seeing a once promising show, finish.

Bring on Volume 7...

Fights, Fanservice and Fierce Rivalry don’t make up for yet more Flashbacks!
