Hunter, aka Joe (?) Saeba, is a legendary private Investigator. His
reputation marks him as one of the best in the business, and he always
completes his mission. On the side of course, he's a monumental ladies
man, who'll do anything to satisfy the carnal desires of his "Nookie
Stick"...
The story? A terrorist known as the Professor has arrived in Tokyo,
and subsequently things start to get a bit nasty - dangerous criminals
are freed, and nasty things start to happen to people - enter Joe,
who is hired to protect the Professor's sister (or is she?)
In all honesty, for the first 10 minutes, I couldn't stand this. It
was crude, the main character seemed like a total berk and it was
hard to see him as the hero of the piece.
Then I found myself gradually warming to it, and by the end I had
thoroughly enjoyed it.
If I can put my initial misgivings down to any one thing in particular,
it would have to be the balance of the humour against the drama -
the two didn't sit incredibly well together - Joe was either incredibly
suave and competent, or a moron. The personality was too divided to
be remotely plausible, and not done well enough (initially)
to be funny. Vash from Trigun is far more convincing for example...
However, once you suspend disbelief, and the plot starts to
gather momentum, I found it compelling and stylishly executed.
Certainly the baddie of the piece is a bit on the hard side, and animation
and music are very nicely done. The whole thing looks pretty damn
cool, and if you like Jackie Chan films, you'll love this.
7/10 - Solid and stylish action flick
