When I was a wee tot about town I occasionally saw one of these videos
on the shelf, I found them fascinating to look at, and when I actually
bought one I was nicely surprised.
Dominion is based on the Manga of the same name, created by Masamune
Shirow,who brought us Appleseed, Ghost
in the Shell and Black Magic M66.
The story is one of a polluted world where it is unsafe to go outside without a gas
mask. This world has a crime problem so bad that the police are forced
to employ tanks and brutal tactics to stem the flow of violence.
This doesn't mean this video contains lots of hyper violence like,
say, Mad Bull 34. The story is intelligent and the amount violence
that the two episodes contain is largely comedic.
The animation is a little dated, but then again so are the original
two episodes. The dubbing is good quality with no major glitches that
I could spot, but the soundtrack leaves a little to be desired though
even though the main theme did have me singing it to myself which
caused a few raised eyebrows among my friends.
The villains are well thought out to and are loveably evil and cheeky
(the cat sisters in particular). This anime is special in its own
way, but not spectacular.
8/10 - Different and refreshing and a good laugh to watch
with your mates after a few pints.
