Reiko from Comic Party - Cute, ne?

D R A G O N H A L F

Mink has problems. She's in love with a Dragon Hunter. She's also half Dragon, and the president of her beloved's fan club is a mean Princess skilled in the black arts who wants to see Mink made toast. On top of which, the King wants her dead for messing up his castle after a plan to kill her Dad so that he could have her mother went a bit awry.

Confusing, isn't it? ^_-

Still, it's also completely ace, and despite initial worries about the ability of English voice actors to do the script justice, I was bowled over by it. The cast, by the way, are fantastic, and capture the manic pace of the original perfectly. All the characters are nut jobs, and the anime captures the feel of the manga with chibi (child-like) versions of the characters popping up all over the place.

Dragon Half In keeping with the almost indefinable Japanese sense of humour, it's also mad, unpredictable and perfectly timed. The gags themselves are great, and it's pure slapstick all the way, with wry observations to camera and even the characters on screen find the whole thing ridiculous.

The animation is fine, but with the speed everything moves across the screen, you'd be hard pushed to notice anything anyway! The music is pretty twee, but the ending theme is pure genius ^_^

If there are any drawbacks, it's the fact that the series craves more episodes, but none were made (to my knowledge). Hence, there is no story resolution as such, which is slightly frustrating. However, what is here is nigh on perfect, and it'll make a great buy for anyone looking for a genuinely funny anime.

9/10 - The best comedy anime since the BBC Lum edit!
