Reiko from Comic Party - Cute, ne?

E V A N G E L I O N : D E A T H  &  R E B I R T H

After the uproar about the strange last two episodes of the Eva TV series the two Eva films were brought in to explain what the hell happened at the end of the series which left more than few fans dumbfounded.

Death & Rebirth is the first of the two Eva films, with it being split into both death and rebirth. Death is a basic run down of the series, bring people up to speed about the series and where episode 24 left us. The rebirth section gives us the first 25 minutes of the second film, The End of Evangelion.

Unlike the American which was a single DVD double-sided, the UK release is a two disc set. Disc 1 being the film in either English or Japanese with disc 2 being the English version with the Mokuji interactive feature built into it. The Mokuji interactive part of the film is just a gimmicky section allow fans of Eva and new comers to Eva to understand more of the plot of the series and to grasp what is going on.

For anyone who hasn't watched Eva before, trying to understand Death can be near enough impossible with it bouncing about all over the place focusing on certain characters on certain chapters. While for the Eva fan this is just re-capping what they already know. Rebirth shows us the first 25 minutes of End of Eva which is a can be annoying, seeing as you get into it, it cuts you off. Very cruel.

I'd recommend to people, that if your new to Eva, watch the series first and then head to End of Eva. Death & Rebirth purely is for the "hardcore" fans of Eva. If you've seen the series, then End of Eva should be your next stop.

Purely for the "hardcore" Eva fans among us. 5/10.
