I took it home slammed
it into the VCR and pressed play. I was introduced into a flavour
I never tasted before, and it was a flavour I liked!
The film was Megazone 23, a series set in a very far future where
man had destroyed the earth and, in desperation, mankind built large
spaceships with massive sprawling  cities
within to find a new world to inhabit.
Many thousands of years later a Megazone came back.. The Megazone
was ruled under the leadership of Bishop Wondai, whose sole purpose
is to dominate humanity with his giant corporation the "Xi".
Although confusing in places this is a very well thought out anime,
with your usual bunch of transforming mecha and increasingly kinky
snogging scenes. The story is very well portrayed and is basically
an epic.
Animation is sketchy, but there are some excellent scenes involving
the mecha - some of the "cheesy 80's stills" scenes are
just weird though. (Still, this was made way back..) Despite its age,
the voice sync is excellent and one of the best examples I've seen
to date.
All in all a very accomplished anime with that extra bite that
hardcore manga fan, whilst younger otaku still have enough for simple
fun.
7/10 excellent all round performance
