Reiko from Comic Party - Cute, ne?

M A R T I A N  S U C C E S S O R  N A D E S I C O

Po-faced sci-fi fans, prepare to have all you hold dear mercilessly lampooned into a gibbering pulp. Prepare you have you narrow minds expanded so far that you won't be able to fit your heads through the door when you run in terror. Yes folks, the "Best Anime Show of ALL Time"
(1998 Animage Grand Prix) is here and taking no prisoners.

Earth is under threat from a bunch of huge flowers from Jupiter. No, seriously. The enemy ships are even called "Chulips". Inside them are some considerably less attractive lizards who in 2195, a year before the series is set, invaded the human colony on Mars. One of the few
escapees was fry-cook Akito Tengawa, who, despite being a kitchen menial, has the nano-machined tattoo on the back of his hand that allows him to pilot giant robots.

It's a TV series, so the animation is the usual workmanlike production. The ADV dub is their usual fine job and the music the usual J-Pop. What makes MSN stand out, apart from the fact that it resists the temptation to be a YAERO (Yet Another Evangelion Rip Off) is the amount of parody it manages to cram into each episode, right down to the cheesy production values of the show-within-a-show Gekiganger 3 and the way the cast frequently address the audience. Nadesico

Admittedly you'll have to have watched a fair bit of anime to get all the gags, but there's a solid story here too, so newcomers won't be left out in the cold. Absolutely ace, and more so because there's another twenty-three episodes to go.

8/10 - I SWEAR that logo is the Star Trek federation
logo on its side.

 EVA

Eva Nadesico makes use of many opf the voice actors from Neon Genesis Evangelion, to the point where ADV have actually added to the parody!
