Reiko from Comic Party - Cute, ne?

O H !  M Y  G O D D E S S  D V D

MVM have re-released one of the most charming anime OAV's of the last decade back into the UK market, only this time its been captured on DVD, giving fans two major reasons to buy this series - firstly the quality is awesome. Oh! My Goddess was always one of the nicest looking OAV's out there and the DVD transfer captures every frame beautifully. Secondly you get 3 episodes on the first DVD and 2 on the second, eliminating the major problem of overpricing that caused the video releases to suffer.

The story centres on Keichi Morisato, a guy who believes he has no luck with girls because of his height. Dialling for a pizza, he accidentally gets through to the 'Goddess helpline' and is granted one wish. He chooses to have a Goddess for a girlfriend and suddenly his life is turned upside down...

The second and third episodes introduce Urd and Skuld respectively, and at this point the story moves up a gear - more and more complications are thrown into the mix, with gently comedic results. Even at the end of the OAV series, the biggest threat to Keichi and Belldandy's future doesn't come from any one evil individual, but a mistake made years before.

Although the storyline might be too light and fluffy for some, romantic types should find plenty to get all wide eyed about. The whole series is a charming piece of wish fulfilment, and shot mostly in soft focus.

The dub is fine - as twee as the original, and with solid performances from the cast. Purists will prefer subbed, but thats available on the DVD too.

Extras on the DVD's include audio commentary by the American cast, effects & music tracks as well as a Cel gallery, all of which enhance the overall package very nicely.

8/10 - Fun, romantic comedy that captures the spirit of the manga perfectly! Consider the 2 DVD's as the ultimate collector set ^_^
