This is going to ring a few chords with older fans - the sequel to Carl Macek's infamous Robotech, the splicing together of Macross, Southern Cavalry Cross and Mospeada is either a superb epic or blasphemy, but personally I was too busy watching Hasbro's Transformers to notice the series at all when it first aired. Shame really, as this is actually pretty impressive for the time. Set ten years after the original Robotech saga, this video was the only fruit of an attempt to get another series off the ground to cash in off the success from the original's 85 episodes. The events of the video deal chiefly with the wedding of Rick Hunter, now a general, and Lisa Hayes, now a victim of eighties haircuts... It also casts the first stone in setting up the Invid wars, a race older and more dangerous than even the Robotech Masters. 
The only real problem with the video is that it's cut short in its prime. The story is interesting, fun and well written, but ultimately falls short of a satisfactory conclusion. However, the designs, animation and characterisation make this a must for either Robotech, Macross or eighties sentimentalists. One thing I will say for it - parts of it look miles better than Macross 7! 6/10 - Dated, and only of real value to nostalgic fans. Back to Menu |
