K O D O M O  N O  O M A C H A  ( C H I L D S  T O Y )

Sana Kurata is a hyper, charismatic, eleven year old actress who lives in a big house, with her award winning author mother (who has a squirrel called Maro-chan living in her hair), and manager, boyfriend and 'pimp' Rei (It is pretty obvious Sana has no idea what a pimp is).

At the beginning of the series, Sana complains about her awful school life, her troubles caused by the cold Akito Hayama, who leads the boys in the class against their cute young teacher, and drives everyone to despair. Sana, being the person she is, decides to sort it all out, which generally involves a lot of shouting, costume changes, and random 'Sana-raps'.

It sounds bizarre and it is, but the novelty is: It all makes perfect sense. Oh, and it's hilariously funny. The story moves along quickly, and all cliff-hangers are explained properly, so you aren't left guessing. The story literally explains itself to you as you ask the questions, usually in the form of white bat 'Babbit', the token cute, but often sarcastic mascot.

The characters are all good, and develop well, and Sana, who you think would get annoying, only manages to grate after six or seven episodes in a row, which I think is a pretty good achievement. Hayama compliments her character perfectly, providing the extreme opposite of her cheeriness (though his pessimistic view can lead to some very funny moments).

The animation is just about okay. It is big and bright, but for some reason most of the characters have honey coloured eyes, which does get a bit monotonous after a while, but the humour, plot, and everything else more than compensates for it.

Some things to point out though, that may 'affect your viewing pleasure'. The voice acting is brilliant, but insanely fast. You don't get much time to read the subtitles. Also, a lot of the humour requires basic anime knowledge. For example: This is a shoujo anime, and makes fun of the fact that it is. If you aren't familiar with shoujo elements (flower petals, pink hearts, etc.), you wouldn't understand a lot of Sanas random antics.

It is very hard to describe this anime without actually showing it to you. It looks and sounds as though it was made for children (it probably was), but to censors in the UK, this would fit somewhere between the Simpsons and Ally Mcbeal in terms of suitability.

10/10
