| Miaka Yuuki was just an ordinary girl dreaming of food, boys, graduation and even more food. However, along with her friend Yui, she comes across a book entitled, ‘The Universe Of The Four Gods.’ From it, Miaka is transported (initially with Yui) to Ancient China, where she is saved by the mysterious (and money-hungry) bishounen Tamahome. From then on, Miaka learns that she is the Priestess of Suzaku, and has the ability to summon Suzaku with help from the Suzaku Seven. Join Miaka as she desperately searches for the 7 warriors, having many problems on the way, including…going against Seiryu…and Yui? I love Fushigi Yugi. It is the perfect anime for almost anyone. You like a bit of fighting? No problem. Like some romance fluff? Easy as pie. You prefer something for your funny bones? It’s got that in spades. Or perhaps some tragedy? You’ll be tugging at your heartstrings for this one.
There are so many elements which make Fushigi Yugi one of my favourite
animes. The developing love triangle between Miaka, Tamahome and Hotohori,
the realization of her going up against her best friend, the elements
of betrayal, the comedy (plus the fact you have to keep telling yourself
Nuriko is a boy…you’ll see what I mean) is top notch, and the dubbed
version is excellent as well. (Fans of Pioneer stuff will recognise
a few, heck, if you’re a Digimon fan you’ll recognise some instantly.)The minor gripe which stops it getting a perfect mark is the price. It’s a lot of money for 4 DVD’s (Ł142 from United Publishing) but for 26 episodes of pure class, it’s worth it. Now, to save up for the final 26… 9/10 - Something for everyone, and its done so brilliantly! Back to Menu |

It should - Pioneer also released the fan favourite El Hazard, which
sees a group of schoolkids transported to a strange new world. Funny
that :)Read the Review |
