| The year is 2010. Keith Evans is a young man with a vision. He is a psychiccer, driven by hatred from the experimentation that the humans have given him. His one true friend, Burn Griffith, has been trying to find him for over 3 years. And now, Burn discovers that Keith is the leader of a new organization called Noah, designed to destroy the oppressed ones. Will Burn join his friend’s folly, or will he be forced to ignore his friendship for the sake of bringing his sanity? Psychic Force is based on a video game on the Playstation, a beat-em up involving psychic fighters using various elements such as fire (Burn) and ice (Keith). As per typical of video game anime, they focus mainly on a few characters, particularly Burn and Keith, and the rest are simply in the background. This certainly isn’t one of the worst video game animes around. The plot (yes, a plot in a game anime - shock horror…)/ story is told around Burn and Keith’s friendship, and how it is driven apart. Whilst some people may take this as something beyond friendship (the cyborg Sonia certainly thinks so), it is quite a likeable story between the two of them.
The problem with Psychic Force is the fact that it can get confusing
with all the flashbacks, seeing all the background characters who have
so little impact (Genma has about 10 seconds to himself) and it just
felt so…pointless. It’s a short OVA, and certainly nothing was answered
for me by the end of the movie. On the plus side, the animation is crisp and cutting edge, and fans of the game will love it. Just don’t expect anything more than a good friendship story though. Rating: 5/10 – Enjoyable while it lasts, but ultimately unfulfilling. Back to Menu |
