| Sister Princess is yet another of your comedy/romance/drama type anime, seen countless times packaged as a different name before. Bog standard characters, hackneyed stories and typical cheesy music, it’s certainly something knocked up to deliver to the typical male audience. It’s the kind of show that has a dedicated fanbase of male teenagers and little else. You can almost see the groups of fans arguing which sister is the best amongst themselves and never managing to come to an agreement... The almost non-existent story revolves around a boy, Watashu, and his 11 ‘cardboard cut out’ stereotypical sisters, and in each episode he sorts out his relationship with every one of them. Story over. Each episode has little, if anything at all, to do with the previous one.
Design in Sister Princess conforms to typical bishoujo standard. Wide
eyes, long legs, straight chins and happy smiles feature in
all the characters, fitting with the industry standards of what
girls in anime ‘should be.Music is typical jpop fare. Most of the tunes
feature a nice tempo, but the opening theme (and all of non instrumental
tracks) have terrible lyrics.Apart from being able to watch the typical male fantasy of twelve gorgeous females living with one guy, Sister Princess is an empty show without any other highlights to it whatsoever. The story (or lack of it) makes sure there’s little re-watch value, but if you’re the typical male otaku, Sister Princess will no doubt be a jewel in your anime collection. 5/10 A very average series Back to Menu |
