T E N C H I  M U Y O  U L T I M A T E  E D I T I O N

I first started watching Tenchi Muyo back when it debuted on Cartoon Network back a few years ago and became a very big fan of it. But, as I got older I simply stopped watching Cartoon Network altogether and left Tenchi behind. However, I knew I would want to see the series again.

When I got the DVD via US Import, I was expecting to have the same love of the Tenchi Muyo! series that I once did. And it didn't dissapoint.

The story revolves around a boy by the name of Tenchi who, after hearing a story from his grandfather about an ancient demon decides to find out more about the demon and goes into the cave it was captured in.

Unfortunately Tenchi, upon entering the cave, releases the demon from a 700 year sleep and finds himself in great trouble. Then, one night after school, Tenchi is attacked by the demon in the form of a woman not much older then himself with great mystical powers calling herself Ryoko. Tenchi then finds himself in more trouble when a ship from a planet called Jurai follows the demon Ryoko to Earth. The princess of Jurai, Ayeka and her sister Sasami try to do battle in space with Ryoko and her spaceship Ryo-Oh-Ki and eventually find themselves standed on Earth living with Tenchi.

The story itself has numerous magical elements to it and is also very easy to understand, give or take the odd confusing moment. The characters themselves are nothing less then brilliant and made the Tenchi Muyo series famous in the first place. Every episode you'll be introduced to new characters, from Tenchi and Ryoko to Ayeka to Sasami, and even to characters as wild as Mihoshi and Washu. The dubbing is very good if a little out of sync at times, but that is easily forgivable.

And for fans of the Toonami version of Tenchi Muyo, there are a few things to take note of. First of all, don't expect the series to be exactly the same as the Toonami version, this uncut version features far more nudity, slightly more adult-themed jokes and slightly bloodier images in battle. So while the Toonami Version is a PG, this version is more of a 12 or maybe a 15 in some cases, so you might want to be careful if you're thinking of buying this DVD collection for your children.

10/10 - This is what started it all and is still amazing even today. Truly a landmark in Anime History. If you love Fantasy, Comedy and even some Romance, this will make your collection just that bit more special.
