Just by looking at the cover, you can instantly tell this is a shoujo
manga. If that isn't your sort of thing, stop now. The whole manga
just oozes shoujo-ness.
If you're still interested, the Miracle Girls story goes like this:
'Toni' and 'Mika' are identical twins with the ability to communicate
with each other telepathically, and to teleport when they're together.
However this power is a secret known only to them - but when (as twins
tend to do) they swap places so tomboy 'Toni' can compete in the sports
day for brainy 'Mika' everything goes wrong - including rather CLAMP
teacher 'Mr K' following them around everywhere. Oh, and the little
case of the token shoujo romance, which comes in the form of 'Chris'
and 'Jackson' at Mika's school.
You have probably guessed by now that this is a Mixx manga (disguised
badly as Chix Comix) - and the name changes are obscene. Jackson?
What sort of a name is that?
This is the (original?) manga of the anime, which I've never seen,
so I don't actually know what the original names are (not these, that's
for sure).
Ignoring the Mixx translation, this manga is...well, it's shoujo.
The artwork can only be described as shoujo (very technical term),
the plot can only be described as shoujo - it makes you cringe. I
have to say I enjoyed the first volume with the big 'Mika'-'Toni'
mix up, mad teleporting everywhere, getting stressed, blushing, running
away from boys, and so on. When this is resolved in the second volume
though, it gets a bit too surreal
and cliché. I really couldn't get into it myself, this is a story
much more suited to younger readers (I'm 16).
Really though, I can't think of anything else as plainly shoujo as
this. Sailor Moon and Cardcaptor Sakura can appeal to lots of readers
- but this is so cliché it's in a league of it's own. So, for something
cliché, ridiculous, and light all at the same time, take a look at
Miracle Girls. Otherwise, stay well away.
Insert score here/10 - Not terrible, but not brilliant. Not
forgettable, but not life changing. Not the worst translation, but
the names are rather embarrassing...
