Sailor Moon Vol. 4 & 5

The saga continues - more romance, more mystery, more leggy girls...

I have to say though I love Sailormoon this volume left me felling a little disappointed, the first Act ties up the of the Sailormoon Arc (which co-ordinates with the first season of the Anime) nicely but the later chapters, are rather dull and repetitive.

Though I like the fact they allow for character development of the other Sailors the action scenes are very samey and it lets the rest of the plot down a little, also Naoko's lack of villain character development shows up a lot in this book, and also the Mixx translation is still a little annoying (Using the American names for the 4 sisters instead of the Japanese ones for example).

However this volume does have it's redeeming qualities. The Lita*/Asanuma angle is sweet and though he disappears later after book 7, I find him a very interesting minor character. Rini* though annoying is much more bearable than her Anime incarnation and there is a hilarious line from Raye* in the second Act (well I thought it was).

Score: 7.5/10 Not bad -just not as good as the rest of the series I've so
far read

* Lita - Makoto
Rini- Chibi-Usa
Raye - Rei
It's very annoying when they use the American names.

Volume 5

Sailor Moon number five while not the best in the series is not the worst, actually it’s a tad better than Sailor Moon 4. The first act is a little like the previous three acts in which Sailors Mars, Mercury, and Jupiter was kidnapped by the Black Moon family.

The next target Sailor Venus, escapes unlike the other three due to the fact that Tuxedo Mask gets an attack all of his own ‘Tuxedo La Smoking Bomber’ (Mixx translates it as Tuxedo The Smoking Bomber this is a Manga only attack). Rini later reveals that Black Posion Crystals, like the ones the Black Moon are using are responsible the demise of the future City of Crystal Tokyo as well as planet Earth.

So Sailors Moon and Venus along with Rini, Tuxedo Mask, and the cats, travel to the future using the Time Gate, this is where they discover Sailor Pluto the guardian of time. At this point Pluto divulges the fact that Rini is the princess of the future Planet Earth.

They try to go to the Crystal Palace but are tricked on the way and Tuxedo Mask saves them with the help from a psychic messenger, who turns out to be his future self the King of Crystal Tokyo Endymion and the father of Rini and Husband to Neo Queen Serenity, Sailor Moon’s future self. King Endymion
and Queen Serenity are both badly, if not Mortally wounded by the Black Moon’s attack, and he has to rely on astral projection. We also meet Diana, Luna & Artemis daughter from the future (kawaii!)

After Returning to the present Rini sneaks back to the future where shes attacked and when Sailor Moon, Venus and Tuxedo Mask come to rescue her the Black Moon captures Sailor Moon. This leaves us with a cliffhanger as the last act is a small side story, the first of Rini’s Picture Diaries, which
here after appear in every Manga Arc of Sailor Moon, this one is about a Vampire at a Rini’s school.

8.7/10 – Better than 4, introduces Sailor Pluto, and leaves us with a cliffhanger, very nice...
