Bandai's series of master grade model kits are fantastic, and blows
the competition out of the water with this run of kits. I have made,
to date, thirty of these kits ranging from Mobile Police Patlabor
through to the obligatory Gundam kits.
As a mecha fan, I admire the mobile suit designs found in the Gundam
universe. I dislike the prototype Gundams on principle, they look
far too nice & bright - white war machines don't quite cut it
for me, but that's my personal opinion...
The kit itself was a joy to work with, with the sprues containing
well crafted parts that fitted together with only a minimal amount
of shaving and alteration. The articulated parts required some extra
work, but only because I am notoriously fussy when it comes to constructing
my kits, they're fixed in place with polystyrene cement and superglue
for the metal parts.
Once assembled, the figure itself is sturdy and well balanced, so
no wood or diorama base was required to finish it, but my personal
taste came into it, so rather than leave it in its pristine state,
I viciously attacked it with a bradawl, drill, and milliput (two part
putty that can be found in most model stores) to give it that war
weary look. GM's are not prototypes, they are front line weapons,
and so I felt it should look like one.
I painted the kit using Citadel paints (available from Games Workshop),
and I created a desert warfare GM. This kit is going to be put to
use in a diorama, once I gather the rest of the components needed,
so stay tuned!
10/10 - Yet another fantastic kit from the masters of models, Bandai.
