One of my few toy purchases from Minami Con this year was the set of three Oh! My Goddess movie figures from Hobby Base. Strange really, as I can take or leave the series as a whole, but the character designs are strangely compelling, and translate very well into figurines.

The set comprises the three sisters, Urd, Skuld and Belldandy, in two sets of colours, blue and red. As a bonus, each Goddess comes with a piece of Banpei, Skuld's robot servant. Obviously you have to buy all three to get the complete robot, but for most fans that probably won't be a problem. Each figure also comes with a display base, but unlike the previous series, they aren't connectable.

In terms of quality, the figures themselves have minor defects, as you'd expect from mass-production models. The painting isn't perfect, and the plastic molds have minor dents , but this doesn't detract too much from the overall effect, which is very nice.

These figures are obviously intended for display, not play value. There are no points of articulation on the main characters, although Banpei is a little more flexible. Unlike the Haruko FLCL figure reviewed elsewhere, they're basically statues. However, the trade off is that you get lovely, solid looking figures, which for those of us completely unable to build decent model kits without help, is perfect.

7/10 - Perfect for fans of the series. No real play value, but wonderful to look at.
