Alita, as built and painted by Draven Models

F L C L  F I G U R E S

The second of my Minami Toy purchases was this Haruhala figure from FLCL. I don't really know why I bought it - I love the series, but if I was going to buy a figure, I'd rather have Mamimi... For those who haven't seen it, Haruhala is the mysterious "alien" that pops up in FLCL and, as her first act, runs over the main protagonist. Bizarre.

Anyway, that aside, what do we make of it? Well, it certainly comes with plenty of extras - a guitar, the case, an extra head and the infamous Vespa scooter. In terms of the main figure, think GI Joe or any of the other countless plastic, fully articulated figures that crop up in toy stores.

Now, whilst this number of articulated points lends plenty of play value, the flip side is that its not all that pretty. I'd certainly go as far as saying that the pictures on the box are not the figure you have inside - the detail isn't as exact, and it doesn't look as good. The usual mass-production rules apply(slight imperfections) but this has less than most, and the paint job is actually rather good. The detailing is quite good, especially on the Vespa, which has clear plastic lights and nice leather detailing (even if the painter has "slipped" when doing the minor details).

As an example of a very flexible toy, its a good one. Good, not great. Okay, the one on the back of the card looks much better, but what the hell, for £15 its not bad value considering its an import and fans of the series will most likely treasure it.

7/10 - I'd prefer a figure that was less articulated and more detailed, but whats on offer is solid enough as figures go.
