In a way I feel I missed out a bit when it comes to anime - back when I would have really appreciated this figure 10 years ago you'd never have found one. Now the series is finished, I'm 10 years older and Viz themselves have commissioned a full set of figures, starting with this female Ranma statue. Gits.

Still, now that they have gotten around to it, you have to admit that they seem to have done a fair job with it. The statue itself is polystone, which makes it exceptionally heavy, and the solid nature of the product does enhance your appreciation of it - it not only looks good, you can also feel the quality.

The paint job is fine - nice attention to detail, no paint slippages and it comes with an excellent trophy style stand that balances the figure perfectly (through the pegs in Ms Ranma's feet). It comes very well packaged - the box is colourful and the packaging holds the figure very securely, so the usual Royal Maul handling shouldn't do it any damage ^_^

That said, the pink and green shirt probably isn't the best colour scheme to have picked, and the overall detail on this item isn't really that high - plain top, black trousers, black shoes - its the sort of kit an amateur kit builder could accomplish competently, but then this is a mass produced product, so that's probably why.

Two things to mention: Firstly, I incurred a customs charge on this of £11, so factor that into the cost. Secondly Viz are selling them via their online store for $69.95 - anywhere else seems to go anywhere up to $95 for the same thing - it really does save to buy from the manufacturer in this case, so visit www.viz.com and buy it from there.

Future statues are set to include Male Ranma, Akane, Shampoo and Ryoga. The success or failure of the initial batch will likely afect how many more are released, but for Ranma fans its very happy news. I don't know if the kit is worth $70 to a casual collector, but for Ranma fans its probably a bargain.

7/10 - It's a statue, its well made and its Ranma - it does exactly what it says on the tin, so if you want a statue of Ranma, this is it.
