Celebrating 20 years of the original Generation 1 Transformers toys that were so popular in the 80's, Takara has released mini PVC versions of the characters in the likeness of the cartoon characters.

As you can see from the pictures (hopefully) they're wonderfully put together. There are 12 figures to a full set, 6 colour and 6 pewter models. You can buy them individually or as a large box, which contains all 12 figures, unless you get one of the rare chase figures, which in this case is a metallic Grimlock.

Also included in the large boxes are parts of a larger transformer, which for series 4 is Metroplex. Sadly the box I bought had seen these parts removed. I'm not all that bothered to be honest, but if you are a completist, make sure you know exactly what you're getting before shelling out.

I managed to pick up a full box for $9.50 from Ebay, but postage was $20 - this is still dirt cheap though, since a large box of these figures usually start at $45 on Ebay. Guess I just got lucky.

Individually, *don't* pay more than $8.50 for a normal figure - they frequently start at $1 on Ebay, although unscrupulous dealers may place them at a starting price of $9.99 (and they actually go up). You can buy individual figures for $8.50 from Dave's World, who I used to get my Ironhide figure.

There are currently 5 sets, with a sixth due shortly, which thankfully has a good deal of G1 figures (some other sets have had a lot of Japanese characters we've never seen.)

Personally I love 'em. They're a great nostalgia item, nicely detailed and at 3" high, discreet (so you can hide them when you have guests coming!) If you're a Transformers fan (or used to be) they're great little models, and well worth picking up.
