Author: Dan Barnett
Dan first encountered anime at the ripe old age of six with a VHS copy of Laputa. Ten years later he re-discovered it in Robotech and overnight a DVD collection was born.
Japanese Air Date: 1st July 2018
Official Site: http://never-island.com/
Synopsis: Based on a visual novel island follows three girls from three great families, who all suffered great misfortunes five years prior to the events of the story. After this the people of the island cut off all contact with the mainland until one day a lone man washes ashore claiming to be from the future. This man now tries to work with the three girls in order to change the island's fate.
Should I watch this: This one looks bright and colourful but also looks like an interesting mystery. The source visual novel seems to be quite well liked. Here's hoping this adapts well into an anime.
Japanese Air Date: 10/07/18
Official Site: http://jashinchan.com/
Synopsis: Yurine, a goth-loli girl summons a lamia named Jashin and they have to live together until Jashin is sent back to hell or manages to kill Yurine.
Should I watch this: Wait, what? That’s...this is…. This premise is nuts! I mean utterly and totally flat out bonkers! This is worth putting on your watch list on the strength of the premise alone and I can’t wait to see if the execution is as good as the set up!
Joshi Ochii!: 2-kai kara onna no Ko ga… Fute Kaitai!?
Japanese Air Date: 02/07/18
Official Site: https://joshiochi.cf-anime.com/
Synopsis: Souske lives in a creaky old apartment building. Suddenly one day the ceiling collapses and the beautiful woman living in the apartment above comes crashing into his life!
Should I watch this: This is a short series that looks set to be pretty racy (though not from the looks of it, one of the women hentai shows that have been prevalent lately). I’d expect this one to be amusing if forgettable though fans of the genre will likely appreciate it.
Kyoto Teramachi Sanjou no Holmes
Japanese Air Date: 10/07/18
Official Site: http://kyototeramachi-holmes.com/
Synopsis: Young Aoi finds herself working in an antiques shop in Kyoto where clients often bring oddities to see the ‘Holmes of Teramachi Sanjou’.
Should I watch this: So, not the Sherlock Holmes anime the title briefly brought to mind but there could be something here. It’s likely to be pretty episodic in nature so as long as the individual stores are intriguing this could well be worth a look.
Lord of Vermillion: Guren no Ou
Japanese Air Date: 14/07/18
Official Site: http://lord-of-vermilion.com/
Synopsis: A red fog rolls across Tokyo causing all who come into contact with it to loose consciousness. Six days later they awaken and begin to realise that something has been awakened within their blood.
Should I watch this: Well, I’m hesitant as ever to recommend a show that doesn’t have a trailer that's easily available for viewing but there's no denying that the concept and key art for this show are interesting. Definatley one to keep an eye on.
Marvel Future Avengers Second Season
Japanese Air Date: July 2018
Official Site: https://dlife.disney.co.jp/program/marvel_starwars/future_avengers.html
Synopsis: The second season in the latest of Japans run of child-focused Marvel shows.
Should I watch this: In a word, no. Sadly despite the fact that if anyone could do a great animated Marvel show it would be Japan, the Japanese themselves have decided they’d much rather continue this run of badly designed shows aimed at an audience too young for Precure that routinely sideline the Avengers for a bunch of little kids. There’s a reason that, despite comic shows being bigger than ever, these ones have never made it out of Japan….
