Default Antivirus/Firewall + Stupid MSN virus

It's renewal time again!

My sister managed to accept one of those "CHECK MY PICTARS!" zip MSN viruses, and I need to renew my antivirus stuff.

I've been using Norton for the last couple years - it does my firewall and antivirus in one, and some other things that are handy except I'm not sure what they do.

I've heard Norton isn't all that great, and it does tend to lead to moments of insanely frustrating slowdown.

Any alternatives? Preferably that won't require much work because I can't be bothered.

Any idea how to get rid of the stupid "Check my facebook" ****ty crap?

If you're after something free, Avast is pretty good.

I don't mind paying for something if it gets me a better product

Iv been using Avast for a long time, seems to do the trick (unless that means my hard drive is a virus pit and it doesn't notice... Remember, just because your not paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get you.) But every so often i do tend to give my pc a scan with Trendmicro housecall.

I have found that being covered regularly by avast and then again by housecall keeps me happy. I have had housecall misidentify my printer software as a virus and sort of bone my USB ports such that windows doesn't boot should i plug something new in... Still, fixed that with a reformat.
