Default Why! is gaming dying?

Hello! everyone its been a long time since i posted a thread so my topic of today is (the death of gaming and why? is it aloud to happen!) the reason i am posting this is because i love to play video games. But ever since the kinetic came out everyone's like its awesome Wrong! people think family&sport games makes them a gamer it doesn't the public needs a re-education in the laws of gaming.

(step 1)
Drop or throw away any kinetic, sports, family&war games like call of duty something like that see.

(step 2)
go to your nearest gaming supplier and purchase and old game that you haven't played in a while like devil may cry,god of war or golden eye for the n64.

(step 3)
insert game into your console and enjoy!

P.S
Thanks! for read my thread i hope to see your replies soon

Depends on your perception of what gaming is. Personally I enjoy Singstar as much as Street Fighter or Arkham City, but I don't think of it as less of a "game" because it uses Microphones.

I admit I prefer playing my PSP over my DS because the games are more traditional on Sony's handheld and therefore more to my taste, but I think you have to accept that other forms of gaming are inevitable.

There are some first class games out this year - Uncharted, COD, Batman, Marvel vs Capcom, Skyrim, Arcana Heart, Project Diva, Gundam vs, Mario 3D etc... You may not like certain trends but I don't think games are dying.

I'm interested to why you have disregarded MW as a valid game...

Have to say, ure being kinda anti-games, yet u claim to be a gamer, goldeneye was indeed a good game, but I was in high school when that was popular... Times move on and theres no shortage of amazing games, personally im a pc gamer, so i see consoles killing off my favourite industry... Yet even so there's still plenty to keep pc gamers busy, my latest and greatest has to be Anno 2070, if i let it that will certainly eat away all my free time.

But console wise there's Saints Row the third (which is so over the top as to be ridiculously entertaining), there's also Arkham City (though i own the pc version), Arcana Heart 3, assassins creed, Deus Ex Human Revolution

there's a pretty much continual stream of Touhou shooters coming onto the western market now which is downright brilliant.

If anything id say gaming has been better than it has for a long time... Load of great games this year and next year is looking to be just as good.

omg I sank over 21 hours into that in the first 2 days I got it. Once I exceeded just over 6 hours in one session and the system told me to take a rest 3 times.. I refuse to! I have an economy to build!

Anyway, I know I rambled about the glory days of Japanese gaming, but this is a bit too far to say everything is not gaming today. Dnt let rob hear what you said lol... Also, I'm not a mw fan but I can see why people like it and others... But you can't exactly victimize it.. I'm a fps fan too, love it in fact. I understand the changing attitudes of gamers these days but hey, that's the evolution of gaming for ya.

Tbh, when I think to myself, why I 'think' games are not as good anymore, I remind myself one thing... Maybe it's a sign I'm just getting old.

Best way to make gaming good? Get rid of consoles. Entirely. Then the big boys can play and use all currently avaliable technology to make new exciting games instead of dry humping the rotting remains of 6 year old hardware.

Constantly improving graphics won't necessarily mean that companies will improve AI or gameplay however

Look at EA, they've destroyed gaming as we know it imho

Incorrect, you've just described how to ruin gaming forever. Console gaming will always be the #1 place for gaming, as demonstrated by the vast, vast number of top-quality games for them while are not nor will will ever be available for PC. Such as Dark Souls.

Until there's a reasonable emulator in the not too distant future of course

If only someone would develop a cheap way to run ROMs on original hardware... (Saw it on the n64, but the kit is hard to find and hella expensive)

Legality aside (they do have a legitimate use -- developing 'home-brew' software), there are devices available for most ROM-based consoles that allow you to run ROM images on original hardware.

While I was a bit extreme with the way I put it, I still think there are some major downsides about how consoles are so mainstream. They're becoming too casual, and companies are just cloning the money makers because they're greedy and the common gamers will buy them. All these gimmicky products and games are the cancer killing gaming. The Kinect, while a cool piece of technology and kit, isn't something I want to ever have to use. Same goes with all motion controls and is why I'm pretty much dumping Nintendo as a supplier of my entertainment, because they have completely lost their minds. The PC market is fairly "hardcore" and that's how I like it (). Just as you said about the console-only releases, there are many games that wont see the light of day on console, alot of them Indie.

If they are just indie games, it is no big deal; most of the games that matter make their way to console one way or another. Also, don't hate on Nintendo, most of their best Wii and DS/3DS games use the 'other' controls only as a small addition, while sticking strongly to traditional gaming styles otherwise, meaning they still play like their predecessors. You'll have to concede that point unless you have some compelling examples of Nintendo first-party games that back you up on this, excluding the kind which are very obviously aimed at a different target market to what we consider to be 'gamers'.

I agree on the Kinect. Cool tech, wouldn't game with it.

I think PC gaming is just as casual - if not more so, than consoles. Most people have a PC of some kind, anyone with Windows has the likes of Hearts and Solitaire (as casual as you can get) and just go into any high street shop like Wilkinsons and you will see them selling naff PC games. My sister has no consoles but has some awful PC games like the riding stable simulator, CSI cash ins, all that crud. There certainly is a hardcore element in PC gaming but most people just play The Sims and film/ TV tie ins, because most people have no taste

In regards to gaming, there are many great mainstream titles: Battlefield, Skyrim, and GTA to name a few, and I'll happily buy and praise them. It's just that these being popular means that, that publishers I assume, want more of the same because it's popular and going to sell. Just look at Call of Duty. Ever since COD4 exploded in popularity (because it was an awesome game), there have been endless FPS games being released, none of them really that great. Even Medal of Honor switched to "modern warfare" to cash in on it.

Not that I really have a huge issue with it, as if people want it and like it, them sure let them have it. However it makes it harder to find the legitimately good and unique games, and harder to get known because the market is drowning in this endless sea of copies.

Oh don't get me wrong, there are a lot of casual games for the PC. I even like The Sims :P. But when you think of the whole 'Console vs. PC' debate, the PC side is usually the 'We can customise hardware, install mods and hurr'. Most "casuals" don't bother switching out components, and I've spoken to people who are afraid of mods because they make 'break their game'. The PC also has games like Startcraft, Counter Strike, all the MMO's, the games with big, cult followings that people will dedicate a lot of time and money towards. If that doesn't scream "hardcore" (read: sad) then I don't know what does. :P

And don't rip on the cheapy games! Pharaoh was a brilliant game, and was sold along side all such "x Simulator games". That said, the Simulator games are a right laugh due to how ba dthey are. Crane Simulator was pretty naff. And lets not forget Bus Driver, a game I saw in GAME for £20 yes was just a 50bm installer.

It also has this totally rocking intro song, that reminds me of the first Driver for some reason.
