Default The "scenes that remind me why I love anime" thread

You know how it goes - sometimes you see something so ludicrous, absurd and over-the-top, yet simultaneously so incredibly awesome that you can only gawp, then laugh, then let out a few random expletives to convey your mood, safe in the knowledge that only anime could deliver such a moment.

That happened to me last night while watching (distinctly dodgy) 90s OVA Kite, so I thought I'd upload it (minus the brief sex scene in the middle) to share and marvel at.

Does anyone else have any moments that they love to watch over and over as an example of why you love anime? Feel free to share!!

Black Lagoon episode 2.

I still remember first watching it, thinking "There's no way they're actually going to launch the boat and fire a torpedo in midair at a frigging helicopter!"

...yeah, the second it cut to the torpedo in the face I totally lost it. This one moment sold me on the rest of the show!

"YEAH! YOU GOT F***ED!"

This for me too, I was absolutely hooked after that happened!

Put aside its graphic sex scenes (and there is a cut version that removes them all), and Kite is actually an incredibly well produced and directed two-part OVA with some great cinematography - the scene I picked out is preceded by a bloody and lengthy shoot-out in a bathroom, and there are some pretty impressive (and ridiculously over the top) action scenes throughout to paper the cracks over what is otherwise a kind of dumb show.

And I've been meaning to watch Black Lagoon for ages. Soon.

Final episode of Gurren Lagann was pretty damn awesome and over the top. I guess there could be spoilers, but it barely makes sense so who cares.

Epic thread is epic! Only two posts so far (Superfish doesn't count, ever XD), but it's quality not quantity. I love Black Lagoon, I'm soooooo buying the BD's. Though the Market scene with Revy & Rock is what turned Black Lagoon from good to great.

Almost every scene in Gurren Lagann is over the top, but in a good way

Priss taking on Largo in BubbleGum Crisis 6. It's just so full of rage.

Tenchi standing up for his friends in Tenchi Muyo Ryo-Ohki volume 6. Sadly it would never reach these dizzy heights again.

Mu La Flaga's "death" in Gundam SEED, and Murrue's reaction when history repeats in Destiny. It's just heartbreaking and heroic at the same time. Forget Kira and Lacus, the two adults in the series are the coolest characters by a mile.

The first race in Redline. Anything which pushes the boat out gets my attention, and for me it's very hard to beat in terms of style and animation. :3

Yeah, the bit where he first uses the Nitro is pretty cool

The concert scene in Macross Plus still gives me goosebumps. Shoji Kawamori + Shinichiro Watanabe with Akina Arai singing Yoko Kanno...and it's possibly the best Macross outing of the lot. Can't get much better than that for me. Hatsune Miku has a long way to go...

Then there's this, the fight scene at the end of the third KnK movie...really intense. It was the point where I realised that yes, it is possible to make a Type Moon adaptation that's outstanding. Ever wondered what happens when someone wrecks a suspension bridge with the power of their mind?

A bit of a spoiler if you haven't seen Mind Game.

One of many excellent sequences in this shamefully under-exposed anime film.

and even mopre so
the death of Euphemia
as I am still in awe of it.

It's just [youtube] with the video identifier part of the URL in the middle.
