Default Just a silly questions: Do laptops operate fine when...

Q) Do laptops operate fine when they are upside down?

For one thing, at least it doesn't crash! But having mechanical rotational devices spin at high speeds (CD drive, HD, fans) with gravatational bias concerns me. Additionally, shouldn't the floating pin in the processor be affected, possibly causing it to expend more energy and therefore heat up more?

Thanks! And for those eggheads, I will have more questions ^^!

Well, the hard disk and CD should function okay upside-down, as will the CPU and the like. However, I suppose there is a slight danger of heat not been transferred away from components properly, as the laptop's cooling system isn't usually designed to be operated that way up.

So, I guess my answer would be yes, it will, but it could have adverse effects in the long-term.

Should be fine...HDs operate in any orientation, CDs usually clip on to the spindle of laptop drives, and even cooling should be OK if it's fan/pump driven.

'Floating pin'? Perhaps you're thinking of 'floating point', a numerical representation system used by computers, or 'floating' in terms of electronics, where something is not connected to a specific voltage level and is therefore at an indeterminate level.
