The most surprising thing about this thread for me is the love for NEO

Yeah, it's less love for NEO and more hate for MyM, which just so happens to be favourable for NEO.

I should point out that we've never had a problem with NEO's staffers. The management however is something else. At least with the biggest poison pill taken out of the equation the mag has a chance to move on properly. The fact that they've allowed their new website to be created to a decent standard this time is a huge stride forward. I have to say I found working with them creatively immensely frustrating, truly one of the worst jobs I've had in 17 years.

Probably because Goatse Kermit is still at the top of the page...

Or, the potential massive breach in data security and the illegality in the form the Data Protection Act breach which MyM are doing?

So apparently Mym's source wasn't Neo, but from a game:

If that's the case they can name the game and clear it all up. Lovely. So come on MyM, which game?

Appanrently this is what was said on Facebook:

Quote:
You could have got your copy through the post if you signed up for a gaming site or bought a certain type of game during the past couple of years.
'Could'... nice use of conditional tense there lol. Just say what it was and I'll shut up about it. Someone's leaked my personal details and that's all there is to it. :/

Well that's about as vague as they could make it. I think the whole "game" thing is a total red-herring. They would have been much better off claiming they used MCM Expo's database since MCM are funding it, and that would have made it very hard to disprove, because MCM have links to every exhibitor and the data could have been collected from any one of them.

But as we've established, we're not dealing with Einstein here.

I don't see how you can even use the word "could" in an explanation of this - surely any company should know where the data on their mailing list has come from?!

I'm hoping they did steal NEO's mailing list and are very badly trying to cover it up

More drama pl0x

Found on Facebook:

Some of the MyM samplers mailed out last week went to the games consumer database of the agency handling our mailing - if you didn't sign up for a sampler at one of the shows we were at, that might be the case for yourself. Apologies if it caused any inconvenience, but hope you liked the sampler

On the subject of this mag..

I've just received the a copy of the first issue today. It seems interesting, but it does have the slight hint of another mag..

Neo have spoken out:
http://www.neomag.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=8827

operative part:
Quote:
As some of you may be aware, MyM is run by a former director of Uncooked Media. MyM is not affiliated with Uncooked Media in any way. We want to make that clear.

MyM was started following this person's dismissal from Uncooked Media, so there is definitely zero collaboration. And Uncooked Media definitely did not 'help out' MyM by giving/selling subscriber data.

Before departure, we believe this person copied and took the subscriber list.
