Hi guys,
I was wondering if you could recommend me some good zombie films, aside from the obvious ones... Dawn of the Dead Dawn of the Dead (2000 remake) Shaun of the Dead Zombieland I just fancy watching some good zombie survival action. That doesn't include HSOTD obviously :P Got any zombie films you'd highly recommend? |

I quite enjoyed the Evil Dead series, though I suspect that's not what you're looking for.
28 Days Later? Didn't really like it myself but plenty of folks do.

Ha, you're going to get a lot of 28 Days Later is not a Zombie film replies
What sort of zombies do you like? Romero Zombies? Fast zombies? Really old school like 'I walked with a zombie' type films that don't really fit the post Romero genre? smart vs hackfest? Also are those films you listed the ones you consider to be the obvious ones? (only because some of the ones I'll recommend are probably quite obvious) If you've seen Dawn of the Dead then obviously Night of the Living Dead, Day of the Dead, all the Romeros etc The Evil Dead are more demons than zombies and they get progressively more into comedic territory but in the same sort of area and worth seeing Rec/Rec2 - Spanish Found Footage film (don't think you actually *see* any zombies, and some might argue they aren't really zombies at all but you get the picture) Slither - not really a 'zombie' film but town residents become zombified by alien parasites, heavy dose of comedy involved though. It's definitely very tongue in cheek The Crazies - again, not strictly zombie but town residents become zombie like creatures of rage for unknown reasons. I loved the recent remake with Timothy Olyphant, totally recommending this one! Versus - totally mad Japanese film with Tak Sakaguchi, maybe more a film with zombie like things than a zombie film and it's a bit divisive but a lot of fun The Walking Dead TV show is actually really good as well |

The original Night of the Living Dead is a classic of modern horror, and is now in the public domain, so available to download/watch for free.
Braindead (AKA Dead Alive) is one of Peter Jackson's early films and is a delicious splatter horror comedy. Versus is one of Ryuhei Kitamura's better films and is an entertaining watch. [Happosai]

Keep 'em coming.
I've seen everything you've mentioned so far, except The Return of the Living Dead Diary of the Dead was great btw, but Survival of the Dead was terrible. |

Shaun of the Dead has references and in-jokes by the truckload, so maybe you'll enjoy it more if you've seen the classics of the genre first. I loved it because of the Spaced connection - I really dig Edgar Wright's humour and directing style, and the cast are familiar to me.
Zombieland has a Bill Murray cameo in it. Nuff said. |

Many years ago I saw the zombie movie Otto: or Up With Dead People at my local cinema (with La Horde as well, which is enjoyable). Otto is memorable for causing my colleague Nick to exclaim "Oh my God, that's his actual penis!"
Your mileage may vary. |

If you don't mind going proper old school (and can find them) some classics of the genre are Night of the Comet and Zombie Flesh Eaters.
The second is Italian - there were a lot of good Italian zombie films in the early eighties. |
