What are people thinking about these supposed stats that were 'leaked' from an old presentation?
I'm cautiously thinking that these are a) probably legitimate as they have everything you'd expect MS to be putting in and b) the fact that MS requested the original posters take them down looks like it was a leak or, more likely for my mind, an intentional release by MS to gauge the market and start some publicity going before the big reveal at E3 next year. http://venturebeat.com/2012/06/16/le...specs-640x328/ |

It broadly makes sense I'd say, although if true the inclusion of the old PPC CPU for backwards compatibility is going to kill Microsoft when it comes to cost per unit of console much like PS2 compatibility did for the original revision of the PlayStation 3. I'd wager that gets stripped out pretty fast when it comes to a refresh of the unit, assuming this is true.
I'm also a bit surprised by the suggested number of CPU cores, which seems like overkill for in-game processing where threading across multiple cores is still pretty hard to do efficiently (although I guess with stuff like Kinect it could be put to better use). The basics of the GPU architecture certainly mesh with pretty much what I'd expect (i.e. just off the cusp of current high-end PC GPU specifications - it would effectively be a Radeon HD 7850 derived part coupled with a bunch of eDRAM based on that "leak"). If I'm being nitpicky, I'd be surprised to see DisplayPort output in the final console (opened up to end-users at least) - has that really made any traction outside of the PC space? Well it's been rumoured for a while now that the new xbox has an old radeon card that isn't high end (HD 6670 apparently)
So yeah, no idea how that stands up to the specs on that sheet as I can never understand them |
