No idea what she's from but that is officially the cutest thing on this thread.

Ranka Lee from Macross Frontier. I don't often recommend fansubs but since there's no chance of the series ever seeing a release here, move heaven and Earth to find it, it's a classic.
She also comes with an apron for an alternative look (but I prefer her sans apron)...

Haven't seen Macross Frontier, but that makes me want to do so. Very badly. |

That's all the excuse you need - the second TV opening is awesome (just up the res to 720p on that vid). I always liked Macross, but was never a huge fan. Frontier turned me into a slavish fanboy. I actually get goosebumps on the Macross PSP games when I'm fighting with Lion as the background music. I may need help.

Macross Plus is still the pick of the bunch for me but Frontier is the most *fun* I've had when watching a Macross show (admittedly, I've yet to see the original series in its non-Robotech form). Bringing Yoko Kanno back for the music helped enormously, but it seemed to have learned the lessons from Macross Zero: backing up cool CGI with engaging characters. Zero fell flat on the characterisation front but looked awesome; Frontier was a bit less consistent artwork-wise but the storyline was utterly addictive.
Really need to watch Macross 7 actually... |

Having seen part of Robotech (that's all I could stomach) it rather put me off anything of that ilk, perhaps a rethink is in order.

Yeah, I'd say so. I watched Gundam SEED expecting to hate it because I didn't like Robotech, but it fast became one of my favourite series of all time.
Frontier has some exceptional writing at its heart, not to mention the coolest "older brother" character since Mu La Flaga from SEED.
