Default New series of Mysterious Cities of Gold?

The original was a Japanese/French prodction, no idea if that will be the case for the new series. I'm interested in any case:

They've not really touched the character designs - could be interesting! ^_^

KyaaaaA~

I heard about this a while ago but after hearing nothing for ages I assumed the project was shelved. The original series was one of my favourite and most vivid childhood TV memories, and I'm pleased to say the DVD box set is worth every penny for fellow nostalgia fanatics out there. One of the interviews with the cast and crew hints that they want to continue it...without giving away too many spoilers about the ending, it did leave things open for a sequel.

Not one but three new series with no Japanese involvement? I dunno. The dual-nationality thing in the production teams is I think what made the series so unusual - it was part French, part Japanese and was set in South America, which was (and still is, really) an unusual choice for a kids' adventure show. That said, there are loads of historical people and places, not to mention myths and legends, that the story can draw from.

My current self is cautiously optimistic, but this is the best piece of news my inner child could possibly hear, short of Miyazaki planning a Laputa 2.

I'll be on the lookout for this, I loved the original, and a modern equivalent would be just dreamy if handled right.

Lets hope they get Ulysses 31 revamped as well!

Whoa, didn't know anything about this. I was a huge, huge fan of the original series and it always felt like the story should have continued so I will be interested in seeing what this is like.

IT IS THE 16TH CENTURY....

interesting fact: this series proved so propular that, after it completed its first run, the BBC [bless their cotton tea drinking hearts] re-ran the series from the start the following week - you could almost say it was the UK's equivelant of starblazers [with its episodic storyline, well rounded characters and animation that at the time blew most western animation out of the water].

I can remember running home, getting a pound for sweets from dad, running lke mad to the newsagents for a 1 pound bag of pick and mix, and running like mad back home to watch Mcog [ the few times that the entire family watched the same program].
hell, after watching it i would go down the library to find books on the incas and south american history to try and find out more about it.

I was similarly excited each time it was on. One particular time ended with disaster when I saw it was about to start, raced down the road to my friend's house so we could watch it together. Her mum let me in and I called my friend in from the garden. She charged down the garden path, far too excited to see where she was putting her bare feet and slipped over in the slugs which had crawled all over the path. I can't quite shake that horrible memory of my friend writhing around in squished slugs with bleeding knees and elbows. The top it off, we ended up missing the start!

I love these stories about reminiscing over this show - proves it really touched a generation. I only remember snatches of it from first time around, but when I rewatched it recently was really impressed with how it holds up.

To be honest even if it is made solely in France, I still want to see it. There's some crazy talent over there that just doesn't get seen in English-language territories. I want.

Do we know when this will start airing?

I have a copy of both the original and Ulysses 31 somewhere... preferred the latter but my wife is a huge fan of the original MCoG and we had the theme music on both our iPods

Good to know it's not been abandoned altogether. I know they've been planning this for ages, but I was starting to give up hope when I hadn't heard anything about it for so long. There was mention of it on the DVD extras of the original series, but otherwise it's been very low-key.

Oh god, it's even more beautiful than I ever imagined! And it's continuing the story, rather than rebooting? FREAKING HELL YES!

Loved this as a kid. Hope it lives up to the legacy.
