"Why don't company y license series x?" "Why is nobody releasing my favourite anime on Blu-Ray?" - we've all overheard, or perhaps partaken in, such discussions as we ponder how, why or what is getting licensed from Japan.

But how does the process of licensing an anime series actually work?
