In a surprise announcement anime news network released a statement from Funimation president and CEO Gen Fukunaga announcing the end of their long running media distribution agreement with the streaming site Crunchyroll as of Friday the 9th of November.
In the report the split was cited as being due to Funimation's acquisition by Sony Pictures and their subsequent desire to release their own sub/dub releases. It was stated however that all currently airing simulcasts and series that premiered during the partnership will still be available and that all titles licensed during the partnership will still be shared between the two companies.
So far there is no word as to how this will effect UK subscribers however in the report it was stated that: "It expects several hundred subtitled shows to launch soon on FunimationNow in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand. Funimation also hopes to offer its streaming service in non-English languages in the future."
Funimation plans to begin offering subtitled content from the winter 2019 season onwards.
