10/07/2012:

Dragon Ball manga to get new film adaptation

Japanese theatrical release on March 30th 2013

Dragon Ball manga to get new film adaptation

Last week it was Sailor Moon, but this week it's Dragon Ball that gets rolled out again as a potential cash cow, with the cover of next week's Weekly Shounen Jump magazine in Japan announcing that a new film adaptation of Akira Toriyama's Dragon Ball manga has been given the go-ahead.

There are no further details about the project and its plans or timeframe at present, but it seems that with the Bleach anime at an end and Naruto running down towards its climax, content creators are looking to revive some old classics in their stead.

The news comes courtesy of the Manga News Twitter feed.

EDIT: Anime News Network now have some further details on the film, which is slated for a Japanese theatrical release on March 30th 2013.

The film will be an animated outing, with Akira Toriyama confirming that he's been deeply involved in its production process, a first for him in terms of Dragon Ball related anime offerings.  Toriyama himself has stated that the movie will stick close to the atmosphere of the original work, albeit with some "modern flavour".

The official movie's web site isn't currently live, but will be popping up over here in due course.
