Hara-Kiri: Death of a Samurai opens theatrically this Friday

Fans of live-action Asian cinema will doubtless want to take note of the fact that Takashi Miike's Hara-Kiri: Death of a Samurai opens theatrically in the UK this Friday, May 4th, closely followed by a DVD and Blu-Ray release from Revolver Entertainment next Monday, May 7th.  If that prospect catches your eye, here's the full press release for you:

HARA-KIRI
DEATH OF A SAMURAI

‘A beautifully crafted story of sacrifice and vengeance’
SCREEN DAILY
RELEASED BY REVOLVER ENTERTAINMENT IN CINEMAS ON 4th MAY AND AVAILABLE TO OWN ON DVD 7th MAY

Revolver Entertainment and acclaimed director Takashi Miike (Audition, 13 Assassins) present a gripping tale of vengeance set in 17th Century Japan in this remake of Masaki Kobayashi’s 1962 cult classic.
Poverty stricken samurai Hanshiro Tsukumo (Ebizo Ichikawa) requests to commit ritual suicide at the House of Ii, run by obstinate Lord - Kageyu Saito (Koji Yakusho), in a desperate attempt for a honourable end. In an effort to persuade Hanshiro to rethink his request, Kageyu tells the tragic story of a similar plea from young ronin Motome (Eita). Hanshiro is stunned by the horrifying details of Motome's fate, but insists on dying with honour. With his final breath, Hanshiro makes a last request which results in the shocking revelation of a bittersweet tale of vengeance against the house of a feudal lord.
HARA-KIRI: DEATH OF A SAMURAI is an intense saga of revenge and honour.

This 18 certificate movie holds an RRP of £15.99 for its DVD release, and £17.99 on Blu-Ray.  If you want to check out a UK trailer for the film, you can do so via this Google Drive link, while you can also find our own thoughts on the movie from an early theatrical screening of the film right here.  Watch out for a review of film's physical release here at UK Anime in the near future!
