JManga announces changes to subscription and points system

As much as we've been excited by the progress made by digital manga service JManga since they opened their doors to the rest of the world earlier this year, we have had a few bones to pick with the company's points and subscription-based payment system, which required you to pay a monthly subscription as well as topping up by buying additional points which could only be used as long as that subscription was active.

However, as of today things are changing in the world of JManga, with the company announcing on Twitter that the following changes have now been made to their payment model:

- Points purchased on JManga can now be used by a member of the site even if their subscription is no longer active, allowing free members of the service to use any remaining points accrued on their account
- Points purchased on JManga no longer expire, and can be used at any time

Moving forward, most likely in a couple of weeks, free members will also be able to buy additional points for their account on an ad hoc basis without requiring a subscription, effectively removing that monthly subscription requirement from their service.

To our minds, this removes a lot of the barriers we felt may have served as a "barrier" to potential users of JManga, and once that final change comes to fruitiion the site will be far simpler and more pleasurable to use outright.

If you haven't checked out JManga before, be sure to give their official web site a once-over to check out their selection of manga - you can also still find our interview with the company's Robert Newman available for download in podcast form.

Will you be giving JManga a shot after these changes, or are you already a regular user of the service?  Let us know in the comments section!
