Nintendo 3DS XL announced for July 28th EU release

Bigger screens, better battery

Nintendo 3DS XL announced for July 28th EU release

As if a price cut so quickly after launch hasn't already enflamed the rage of many early adopters of the Nintendo 3DS, the latest Nintendo Direct conference in the early hours of this morning unveiled a new iteration of the firm's handheld console - the Nintendo 3DS XL.

Although this announcement had been expected for some time, one thing the console won't be getting is the second analogue input that many anticipated - instead, the main features of the XL variant of the device are 90% larger screens (measuring 4.88 inches and 4.18 inches for the top and bottom displays respectively), and improved battery life estimated at 6.5 hours.

The good news for UK residents is that Europe will be receiving the console on the same launch date as Japan - July 28th.  The less good news is that the console won't ship with an AC power adapter - those who already own a 3DS will be able to use their existing power adapter, but newcomers will have to fork out for one seperately.  The console's Japanese price has been set around £150, and will also feature a 4GB SD card as part of its bundle.

If you're an existing Nintendo 3DS owner, will you be upgrading to an XL?  Or if you've been holding off on picking up this handheld, will the XL's launch change your mind?  Let us know your thoughts below!
