The Gundam franchise has always enjoyed a curious relationship with anime fans outside of its native Japan - for all of its successes (notably Vertical's publication of the Gundam: The Origin manga), the franchise as a whole has never really taken off in the west as its owners Sunrise might have hoped.
Nevertheless, a name as big as Gundam can't be left alone in a territory as big as North America, and thus New York Comic Con has seen distributor and online store Right Stuf announce a partnership with Sunrise to bring Gundam's animated offerings to the US.
This partnership will start in the spring, with the company releasing both the first, original Mobile Suit Gundam series alongside Turn A Gundam, with Gundam ZZ to follow.
Also confirmed is that the Gundam: The Origin OVA will be released in the US, complete with a dub from NYAV post - there are no further details on this, or who will be handling the confirmed North American release of Gundam: Reconguista in G (which has been picked up by Anime Limited in the UK).
Would you like to see more Gundam releases reach our shores? Let us know in the comments!
