Having enjoyed a spell as a so-called Netflix Original series, and much in the same vein as its predecessor Knights of Sidonia, Polygon Pictures' latest CG anime outing Ajin: Demi-Human has now been snapped up for a North American home video release by Sentai Filmworks.
Indeed, the distributor has picked up both home video and "transactional video on demand" (i.e. iTunes and similar) rights to the series - here's their press release announcing the news and giving you a taste of the series:
HOUSTON, JANUARY 17, 2017 – Sentai Filmworks announced today that it acquired home video and transactional video on demand rights to the heart-pounding horror thriller, Ajin: Demi-Human, created by Polygon Pictures, under an exclusive license with the Ajin Production Committee.
Kei Nagai is just another carefree high school student until a fatal accident brings his young life to a violent end. But Kei’s death is only the beginning. A resurrection brings not salvation but horror and the realization that he is something other than human. Kei and others like him, known as “Ajin”, are blessed with regenerative powers but they are hunted for cruel and sinister purposes. Kei must elude dark forces and confront the limits of his own humanity in a world that is truly inhumane.
Ajin: Demi-Human will soon be available on Blu-Ray and DVD with special content and extras only available on home video.
You can find that press release in full on the Sentai Filmworks web site.
There's no news of rights for any other territories being snapped up as part of this deal, so there's no news of a UK release for the series at this point in time, although you can of course find both seasons of the show on Netflix UK.
