Seven Seas Entertainment unveil new manga acquisitions for the New Year

Last week saw manga publisher Seven Seas Entertainment pouring an absolute torrent of new manga acquisition announcements out into the wild, from all-new titles to the emergence of old classics.

Now their announcement bucket is dry (for the time being at least), let's dig in and look of the cornucopia of many and varied titles they've unveiled:

Hatsune Miku: Bad∞End∞Night - Hatsune Miku is a young woman seeking to become an actress, but just as it seems her chance has come, everything is thrown upside down when she finds herself hurled into the “world of stage” within a strange mansion. There she meets seven mysterious, and potentially dangerous, characters. Although each comes with their own secrets, they almost all have one goal in common—find the stolen script pages, or be trapped in this false world forever!

The first volume of this three-volume series will be released in an edition with oversized trim on 2nd May, 2017.

Alice & Zouroku - A group of young girls possess a mysterious power known as “Alice’s Dream,” which gives them the ability to turn their thoughts into reality. Detained and experimented upon, these youths are locked away in secret until one of them manages to escape. Her name is Sana—a girl with the power to ignore the very laws of physics. When this willful powerhouse crosses paths with a stubborn old man named Zouroku, his carefully-ordered life will never be the same again!

The first single-volume release of this series will arrive on 4th July 2017.

Unmagical Girl - Pretty Angel Nirvana was everyone’s favorite magical girl, and her TV show was watched in every home. But when an office worker’s computer goes on the fritz, it brings the once fictional heroine Pretty Angel Nirvana out of the screen and into our world! Can this magical girl deal with the unmagical realities of everyday life? Find out what happens when a magical girl is asked to set aside her wand and stop fighting monsters to tackle grocery shopping and paying bills!

The series will be released in single volume editions, with volume one set to arrive on 12th September, 2017.

The Testament of Sister New Devil Storm! - High school student Toujo Basara’s life has taken a turn for the strange. Although hesitant about his father’s sudden decision to remarry, he can’t deny it comes with a couple perks—drop-dead gorgeous step-sisters…who also happen to be members of a demon clan! Mio Naruse is a Demon Lord and Maria Naruse her succubus servant. Chaos and passionate antics ensue as Basara gets acquainted with his new demonic siblings, trying to protect them from dangerous demon rivals and struggling to keep up with their lusty, devilish appetites.

The first volume of this spin-off manga is set for release on September 26th 2017.

Cutie Honey a Go Go! - Tokyo is under seige by the terrorist organization known as Panther Claw, and the beautiful superheroine android known as Cutie Honey appears on the scene to take them on—but fails! For her own protection, Cutie Honey must join forces with government agent Natsuko Aki, and pose as student and teacher at St. Chapel Academy. But there is nowhere to hide from Panther Claw and its leader’s evil machinations!

This series will be released as a one-off omnibus edition, set for arrival on 26th September 2017.

Captain Harlock: Dimensional Voyage - When Tadashi Daiba’s father is murdered by invaders known as the Mazon, he becomes frustrated in the face of the Earth government’s flippant attitude. Landing himself in prison, Tadashi finds himself invited aboard the battleship Arcadia, controlled by none other than the legendary Captain Harlock. Joining his crew on their journey through space, Tadashi’s future will lead him to confront not only the Mazon, but the many other forces across the universe threatening humanity’s very existence.

The first single volume release from this series is slated for 3rd October 2017.

This classic fantasy novel is set for an oversized trim, hardcover edition release on 31st October 2017.

Sleeping Beauty - High school student Yaneko loves to sleep, so much that she can barely wake up of her own accord. That is, until she is roused from her slumber by a sleep spirit known as Nerim. Yaneko must accompany the benevolent spirit on his daily work route, as he grants the gift of comfortable sleep to people (and animals!) of all ages. But just what is his true purpose and why has he chosen Yaneko to be his assistant? This could very well be the beginning of a beautiful friendship!

The first volume of this modern-day fairy tale from the author of Bunny Drop arrives on 21st November 2017.

Magical Girl Special Ops Asuka - When the Earth is threatened by the sudden appearance of undead creatures, a group of young women blessed with powers from a mysterious source rose to defeat them. Now, after three years of apparent peace, the same malevolent creatures have resurfaced. Five magical girls are once again conscripted to war as the Magical Girl Special-Ops force, to defend mankind from an unholy nemesis.

This series will also get single volume releases, the first of which will arrive on November 28th 2017.

The Count of Monte Cristo - Set in the time just before Napoleon’s return to power, this adventurous tale follows the trials and tribulations of Edmond Dantès. After being unjustly imprisoned on the day of his wedding, Edmond devises a plan that leads to his escape, a hoard of treasure, and a new identity: the Count of Monte Cristo. A tale of courage, vengeance, romance and betrayal!

This single, deluxe trim edition is due for release on 19th December 2017.

Dragon Half - A young girl named Mink has fallen for the dreamy Dick Saucer, a famous idol. There’s only one problem: Dick’s not just an idol—he’s a dragon slayer, too…and Mink is half dragon! To solve this conundrum, Mink and her friends must set out on a playful quest to destroy the Demon Lord Azetodeth and gain a potion that will make Mink completely human! Will Mink’s love finally be requited or this doomed to be a fetch quest failure?

This classic series will be released across three deluxe omnibus editions, the first of whcih is set for a December 26th 2017 release.

On top of all this, the publisher has announced their intention to release a series of illustrated manga editions of literary classics starting in September 2017 - currently announced are The Secret Garden, Anne of Green Gables, The Princess and the Goblin, A Little Princess and Pollyanna.
