I'm not entirely sure that a hook is required when it comes to having an opportunity to watch the Oscar-winning Studio Ghibli film Spirited Away again, but nonetheless the Aubin Cinema in Shoreditch, London is offering one this weekend as theit latest "Edible Cinema" experience. If you're not sure what that means exactly, allow me to inform you via the cinema's own description of the event:
We are proud to present the second installment of Edible Cinema; a collaboration between Soho House, renowned event organiser Polly Betton & experimental food designer Andrew Stellitano.
The audience receives a series of numbered food packages to consume at specific points during the film along with a Bombay Sapphire cocktail inspired by the film. The smell, texture, even the way your mouth feels after eating the contents of the packages will correspond to what’s happening onscreen & heighten your sensory experience.
The film is Studio Ghibli’s weird and wonderful 'Spirited Away'. Imagine eating foaming tapioca 'soap' powder as Sen bathes a filthy river spirit at the bathhouse onscreen. Or when bathhouse worker Lin eats a roasted newt you’re also eating the strangest sweet-savoury crunchy treat you've ever tasted.
So, there you have it - watch Spirited Away while eating and drinking weird stuff. The Aubin Cinema will be holding two screenings of the film this coming weekend - the first on Saturday, August 25th at 4PM, and a second on Sunday, August 26th at 9PM. Tickets to both screenings are on sale now, with ticket pricing starting from £20 per person. You can find out more details about the screenings and how to book from the Aubin Cinema web site.
