We're still recovering from the emotional experience that is watching A Silent Voice on the big screen this week, but it's already time to start thinking about Anime Limited's next theatrical anime project.
That project is Sword Art Online the Movie: Ordinal Scale, and while some screening details popped up on particular cinema web sites some time ago we can now confirm that the film is getting its nationwide UK theatrical release via preview screenings on Wednesday, 19th April 2017, with further screenings from Friday, 21st April 2017.
What's more, it's been confirmed that - unlike US screenings - UK cinema-goers will be able to watch an uncensored version of the film. All screenings will be in Japanese with English subtitles, although screenings using the recently commissioned English dub of the film may be looked into for further screenings at a future date.
Here's a synopsis of the film:
“Ordinal Scale,” an ARMMO-RPG that was designed exclusively for “Augma.”
Following its release, it has become the most discussed game due to its advanced technology. In this game, players can raise their rank by collecting items that appear in various places in the real world and by defeating monsters. This “Ranking System” is the main feature of the game, and in this system, each player’s status is determined by their rank which is indicated by an ordinal number instead of a cardinal number.
As the result, high ranking players are given overwhelming power and often rank has become a major factor in deciding the outcome of a PvP battle.
There are still plenty of screenings yet to be added, but you'll be able to find an up-to-date list of currently scheduled screenings near you from the official Sword Art Online movie UK web site, while you can find further details at the All the Anime Blog.
We already have a review of the film ready to go, but it's under embargo until 1st April - be sure to check back for your thoughts on Ordinal Scale then!
