It might not be easy to say, but that certainly hasn't stopped Utawarerumono picking up a dedicated following of western fans - fans who are about to be well-served in 2017.
Yesterday saw Atlus announcing that they'll be localising and bringing the latest two titles in the franchise to the west, meaning that 2017 will see both Mask of Deception and Mask of Truth coming to the PlayStation 4 and PS Vita in English over the course of the year.
Utawarerumono: Mask of Deception is currently slated for a spring 2017 release in both physical and digital forms for the PlayStation 4, as well as a digital-only PS Vita release - the game is described as follows:
Mask of Deception follows the story of Haku, a mysterious amnesiac who awakens in an unfamiliar wilderness wearing nothing but a hospital gown and sporting a splitting headache. He’s rescued by a beautiful girl named Kuon, who sports both adorable animal ears and a beastlike tail.
They eventually team up, and Haku will (reluctantly) encounter colorful characters (yes, that means more animal people), build deep relationships, battle ruthless enemies, and find himself inexorably dragged into the political machinations of the mighty nation of Yamato.
Utawarerumono: Mask of Truth will then follow later in 2017. Both games will feature Japanese audio with English text and subtitles.
