    Your Arrival
    On arrival you will find a complimentary welcome drink of local tea, coffee and a pint of milk in the fridge

    Your Stay
    Heights of Abraham http://www.heightsofabraham.com Chatsworth House http://www.chatsworth.org/attractions-and-events and Haddon Hall http://www.haddonhall.co.uk are open with seasonal events

    Matlock Bath General Stores in the centre of Matlock Bath is open every day for local meat, milk, bread, provisions, gifts and newspapers

    Weather Forecast
    Sunny spells and snow showers are forecast with a temperature of around -3 to 2 degrees

    Here are some useful guidelines to help you make the most of your stay

    Things to Bring
    You may like to bring slippers for upstairs with polished wooden floors

    Things We Provide
    As award winners of the Peak District Environmental Quality Mark, at Portland House c1870 you can enjoy the best of British furnishings, energy friendly devices and our guide to lovely local places (ask your chief organiser for a copy)

    For your 5* comfort the utilities, bed linen, bath towels, hairdryers, tea towels, initial kitchen provisions (e.g. washing-up liquid, toilet paper, dish washer tablets) and other goods are provided with our compliments for use during your stay and are chargeable if removed

    For your 5* experience a list of pre-approved caterers/suppliers, fabulous local places and some extra special suggestions have been given to your chief organiser

    House Tips
    Portland House c1870 is a town house in the Derwent Valley World Heritage Site, in the famous tourist town of Matlock Bath with neighbouring properties

    Please keep the doors and windows closed after nightfall and this will also help to keep out the local wildlife from the nearby Derwent River and woodlands

    Things Not Permitted
    You will have a great time at Portland House c1870 but please bear in mind that unfortunately the following are not permitted: your own music systems or amplification systems, excessive noise, extra guests, camping, fireworks, external noise, pets, naked flames, smoking or electronic smoking devices

    To preserve the historic décor the movement of furniture or fixtures, use of adhesive or any other fixing (e.g. tacks, pins, cellotape) is not permitted but do take advantage of the handy hooks (see below)

    For your own safety the levelled bar billiards table with a heavy slate bed must not be moved

    Balloons, Banners & Bunting
    In the sitting room and in the dining room you will find white hooks at mid height on the window frames to attach your banners, decorations or balloons

    Music
    For your pleasure there is a background music system in the Bar Room cupboard which controls the music throughout the ground floor rooms and hallway
    1. select your music source (right hand side of cupboard) - on the Teac Music System use the Source button to choose
    2. Radio
    3. CD player
    4. Aux 1 - plug our lead into the headphone socket on your phone or on your MP3 player
    5. USB - plug your connector into the front of the music system
    6. Bluetooth - on your device select the Teac Music System but remember to keep your device in the bar room to keep in range
    7. select your room speakers (left hand side of cupboard) – on the speaker system press in the button to turn on a room speaker
    Oven
    The Rangemaster electric double oven has the latest induction hob. All of the pans we provide are induction friendly. Once an induction pan is placed on a ring it will heat instantly. During cooking do not leave it unattended. When the pan is removed it stops heating instantly

    BBQs
    There are 2 American built in BBQ pans. Place the charcoal (bring your own) on top of the bottom grill. Place your food on the top grill

    Recycling & Waste
    Recycling is clearly labelled in the utility room. When full and on departure please remove your recycling and rubbish to the large outside bins through the utility back door (no key required just turn the handle up)

    Heating
    In every room you can adjust the heating by turning the radiator thermostats. In the hallways, the electronic wall display shows the current temperature of that spot in the hallway. The heating and constant hot water from 3 tanks are automatically controlled by a computer in an outside boiler house

    Cot
    If you have requested a complimentary cot at the time of booking then please bring baby's bedding

    Fire Safety
    On arrival please make yourself aware of your nearest exit. The fire escape exits are labelled. Fire extinguishers are available in every hallway and in the kitchen

    Free Wi-Fi
    Wi-Fi is usually available for light use at Portland House c1870 with our compliments. If you choose to use the internet facilities then you agree that you will only use it for lawful purposes and light use. On your PC or mobile device select “Portland House” and enter the code 56125612 to access the internet

    Parking
    There is a car park for around 10 cars and unrestricted parking on the lane leading to the car park

    Local Information
    Departure before 10:00 am

    Please ensure that you have completed the following steps before 10:00 am
    • add a comment, sign or draw in the Dodo guest book (hallway stand)
    • note any suggestions and breakages in the Housekeeping Book (hallway stand)
    • ensure that the property is left in the same clean and tidy condition as at the commencement of hire; the housekeepers will take care of the laundry (bed linens, towels, tea towels and table cloths)
    • empty the fridge, freezer, ovens and cupboards. You are welcome to leave any unopened food or drink on the kitchen island for the housekeepers
    • put your recycling and rubbish into the large outside bins (accessed through back door by turning handle up)
    • check for clothes on hooks behind the bedroom doors and for your phone chargers
    • check that all of the windows and doors are locked and that the front door closes firmly behind you
    • call or text Juliet on 0787 614 0726 on departure to enable us to take over responsibility for Portland House
    Please ensure that you have removed all of your belongings from the house before departure time as the housekeepers will arrive promptly by 10:00 am

    Top tip: are you staying in the area any later? Park for free on the lane leading to Portland House c1870
