Discovering DLsite
Many of you will have heard of (or even already use) DLsite, a treasure trove of all things doujin, from games to manga and more, the site is jam packed with interesting titles, both original and based on series you’ll know, from Touho to Azure Lane. While we tend to favour the all ages products, you can delve into the more adult world of 18+ games, which is why some internet providers block the site – easy to get around if you have a VPN!
So what’s on DLSite? To be honest, I’ve spent literally hours combing through manga and games on offer, and while we’re going to be exploring this on the site with a number of reviews in the coming weeks, here are two highlights that have crossed my personal radar:
Tempest of the Heavens and Earth:
An action game set in the Touhou world, this is a great little platformer battle game that’s fully translated to English and much cheaper on DLsite than Steam.
The Fox Priestess of Yakushido
Translated by the Translators Unite group, this is a charming manga about a fox priestess helping the local community with some gorgeous art and fascinating characters.
I’m sure Eoghan will find some more adult titles to cover as there’s certainly no shortage of those for pretty much any taste – I’ll be sticking to the all ages catalogue though!
You’ll find many of the indie games are also offered on Steam, but where DLsite shines is the lower cost – Tempest of the Heavens and Earth is £10.99 on Steam, while buying direct can be as low as $1.37, so why pay the extra?
There’s also a lot more choice by going directly to the Japanese site, with a plethora of translated titles and easy navigation making your access to the heart of Japanese fan culture the easiest it’s ever been.
Getting the Goods
Payment for items on DL Site can be made a number of ways, but the most interesting is using Crypto via DLSite’s official payment partner, DLpay Crypto. The service is designed to be a smooth, reliable way to purchase DLSite points quickly and anonymously using your crypto wallet.
One of the major reasons for using crypto these days is due to the way in which payment companies like Visa and Mastercard are becoming increasingly restrictive on how you can spend your own money, an issue that became more overt in 2021 as reported by outlets like The Hill (Mastercard updates policy for adult content sellers). Ostensibly designed to restrict sales of illegal material, it has since pivoted to become a moral arbiter of your wallet, which makes services like DLpay more attractive to those who want to pay for entirely legal, adult entertainment, or even all ages content that just happens to be on a site that’s entered the payment provider radar.
While I started out personally as a bit of a crypto luddite, several members of our team have been using crypto for years and helped me understand how it works, showing me the benefits/pitfalls over the years.
In the UK especially there are reasons to avoid turning your crypto into cash, the most notable being the punitive capital gains tax in the UK, so it makes sense to find ways to spend it and avoid the problem altogether. What better way to enjoy the gains in bitcoin over the last year than enjoy some quality titles in your free time?

So DLpay Crypto is a solid option for a number of reasons, the most important being that they are the official crypto payment partner to DLSite, making payments fully integrated and simple to access across the site as a whole. Coupled with the fact that crypto works as an intermediary layer, it won’t be declined by any banks either, keeping the control over what you want to buy entirely in your hands.
Given the nature of some of the products on the site, the ability to keep these purchases anonymous can be a boon to those who want to keep these transactions private and off the credit card bill. After all, anyone at the bank could be accessing your records so why not add a layer of privacy to your account?
To use the service on DLsite, once you’ve found your new title, simply select “Purchase points” and “Purchase Points Using Crypto” is your first option. Select how many you want, verify your email and pay via your crypto wallet. Simple.
Select pay by Crypto and the process is very easy. Of course you can just visit DLpay Crypto directly using this link and get your points ready before you’re even browsing!
DLpay Crypto – now with credit card access too!
Even though I now understand crypto thanks to my UKA colleagues, I still haven’t amassed a horde of it to use, and honestly it's probably not bag anyway – until now I’ve had to use other means to buy points, which are okay but not ideal, with a bit of a gap between paying and collecting my points to use on the site. That’s why DLpay adding credit card payments to their service is such a benefit, given that they’re not only running a smooth payment system already, but as the official payment gateway to DLsite, gives me a level of security I don’t really have elsewhere. Providing a stable and alternative payment route even for card holders should see DLsite grow in popularity as it integrates payments via a trusted partner.
So in summary, DLsite is a cracking platform with a catalogue that’s absolutely bursting at the seams with manga, games, ASMR titles, audio dramas and even video content that’s either in English or simply marked “alingual” (no dialogue) so there’s plenty to go at.
Thanks to DLpay you can keep your purchases private in a very easy manner and if you’re a Crypto King or Queen, this is a great way to make use of your digital currency instead of risking HMRC sticking their hand out for a share.
