British Museum screens Miss Hokusai on July 1st

Companion to Hokusai: Beyond the Great Wave exhibition

Written by A. H. on 12 May 2017

Back in January we reported on the British Museum's forthcoming exhibition Hokusai: Beyond the Great Wave. The opening of that exhibition is now just a couple of weeks away - it starts on May 25th - and to coincide with it the Museum will also be screening Production I.G.'s animated feature Miss Hokusai as part of their look at Hokusai's life and work.

As a result, on Saturday 1st July at 2:30PM you'll be able to find a screening of Miss Hokusai taking place at the BP Lecture Theatre at the British Museum. Tickets cost £5 (or £3 for concessions), and can be purchased online from the British Museum web site.

The film, available on home video from Anime Limited, is described thus:

O-Ei works with her father Katsushika Hokusai on his great works but has to deal with his short temper and lack of interest in worldly things such as money or society. O-Ei, however, has inherited her father’s talent and it soon starts to get her into trouble.

We reviewed the film at Scotland Loves Anime 2015, and you can read our thoughts over here.

For even more Hokusai-related material, Showcase Cinemas are screening ninety-minute documentary British Museum Presents: Hokusai on Sunday, June 4th. You can find more details on book tickets to those screenings at a number of locations around the country from the Showcase Cinemas web site.
