Princess Maker 2 Refine was a surprise hit on PC and console when it finally arrived in English back in 2016. Raising a young girl to become a princess, with multiple disciplines to learn and social interactions to manage created multiple ending possibilities, from a happy young Queen to a dark and dangerous overlord. The series first arrived back in 1991 and spawned several sequels and an anime series that ran for 26 episodes in 2002-2003. The series is also notable for being the brainchild of core Gainax Studio member Takamai Akai.
Princess Maker 2: Regeneration is out now on Nintendo Switch and PC, with PS4 and PS5 versions following later in the year. It's a celebration of the series 30th anniversary, where once again, you'll be raising a young girl to become your matriarch, taking the classic PC-98 game and bringing it into a modern resolution. With new graphics come greater immersion, and the game promises to make the simulation/RPG hybrid the most compelling version yet.
The animation looks lovely, it's a real pleasure to see more classic Gainax animation, particularly with the recent collapse of the studio. This is a must-have for Gainax afficionados and a real time-capsule of a bygone era. It helps that the game is a lot of fun too!
Comment from Takami Akai
"I am so grateful that Princess Maker 2, which was created 30 years ago, is still loved by many people and that a new version is being released. This time, I was finally able to achieve the graphic renewal that I had always wanted! Please enjoy the newly drawn vacation and ending."
