FUNimation Entertainment to work directly with Studio Khara on Evangelion 3.33 release

Subtitles to come directly from Khara themselves

To say that the production of the English localisation of Evangelion 3.33: You Can (Not) Redo has been a troubled one would be a massive understatement, with western, English-language releases of the film on home video still no closer to arriving in the hands of fans hungry to own the film for themselves.

Perhaps the latest news from FUNimation Entertainment shows some light at the end of the tunnel however, as they have stated that they'll now be working directly with producers Studio Khara on the English reversioning of the film in an attempt to move beyond the current impasse that has caused so many delays. Here's the full statement from their official blog:

We are working directly with the Japanese studio and the original creator on the upcoming Evangelion 3.33 home video release. This is a unique opportunity that presented itself to us, and since the plot for Evangelion 3.33 is so different from previous story lines, we are thrilled that the creator has asked to be so heavily involved in this project. Studio Khara has even decided that they would like to create their own special subtitle tracks for the release! We thank you for your continued patience as we work to confirm a release date.

Needless to say, this announcement confirms that the current February 2015 release date for the film's UK home video release can now be scribbled out, and we'll be watching keenly to see what progress can be made on the English language release over the coming year.
