Studio MAPPA have announced a brand new project with Cowboy Bebop creator Shinichi Watanabe with action sequences planned by John Wick director Chad Stahelski. The new series, called Lazarus, was ordered by Adult Swim for their Toonami block.
The series will be produced by Sola Entertainment and feature music from saxophonist Kamasi Washington, DJ and musician Floating Points and producer, musician and DJ Bonobo. The three will combine their talents to produce a jazz/electronica fusion for the new series.
Taking place in 2052, Lazarus follows a Nobel Prize-winning neuroscientist that creates a new drug called Hapuna, a cure-all miracle with the side-effect of causing death three years later. The series will focus on a special task force that will be chasing down a mastermind named Skinner.
Watanabe himself revealed the details of the project at San Diego Comic Con, saying;
“As I embark on this creative journey, I can’t help but feel that this project will serve as a culmination of my career so far. I hope you enjoy it.”
No dates or further details have been disclosed, but doubtless Watanabe will be working his magic once again.
