Toho have, this morning, revealed some excellent news for fans of Mamoru Hosoda’s work (The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, Summer Wars, Wolf Children, The Boy and the Beast) - they have launched a website to promote the director's next film Mirai from the Future (Mirai no Mirai). Included on the site are a new poster and teaser trailer for the film, the site also specifies a Japanese release date of July 20th 2018.

As well as directing duties Mamoru Hosoda is credited as the scriptwriter, with the film being based on his original story. Several alumni from his previous works are joining him for this film: including Hiroyuki Aoyama and Ayako Hata (The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, Summer Wars, and The Boy and The Beast) who will be taking up posts as animation directors. Yohei Takamatsu and Takashi Omori (The Boy and The Beast), are positioned as art directors for the film. Similarly Producer Yuichiro Saito makes a return after working on Hosoda's earlier films.

Hosoda discussed the themes of the new film with Variety earlier in the year. Stating that the new film's theme will be "siblings", which follows the related themes of his previous films: "youth" in The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, "family" in Summer Wars, "motherhood" in Wolf Children, and "fatherhood" in The Boy and The Beast. Hosoda has also noted that the new film is inspired by his own experience as a father.

Anime News Network provide the following synopsis of the new film.

Synopsis: The film's story centres around a family living in a small house in an obscure corner of a certain city — in particular, the family's spoiled four-year-old boy Kun-chan. When Kun-chan gets a little sister named Mirai, he feels that his new sister stole his parents' love from him, and is overwhelmed by many experiences he undergoes for the first time in his life. In the midst of it all, he meets an older version of Mirai, who has come from the future.
